PC based control advantages

Hard disk and Floppy disk program storage:
Program storage on a PC based system is easy and large. Solid state hard disks are now cheep and everywhere. The OmniTurn comes standard with at least a 16M hard disk and floppy disk drive. You will not run out of space! The hard disk makes for huge storage, the floppy disk makes for easy backup and transfer. The OmniTurn uses 1.44 MB floppy disks. There is no system cheaper or more available.
With this large storage capability, you can store all of your programs in the machine for instant access. The operator does not have to download via a cable every time the program is changed.

Tool Offsets are also stored on the disk:
You can save a separate set of offsets for each program. This makes the OmniTurn the fastest to change over.

No battery backup is needed:
With other controls, the program is stored in volatile memory that needs a battery to maintain it. Solid state hard disks and floppy disks are much more dependable and easily copied for safe backups.

Off the shelf ease:
Most of the components in the OmniTurn are off the shelf. This has made it possible to build the OmniTurn with the latest advancements in technology and keep the price very reasonable. The cards used to drive most of the functions (disk drives, monitor, RS-232) are reasonably priced. Compare this to other controls where parts cost hundreds or thousands of dollars!

Service:
A control based on a common PC is very easy to service. All components can be removed and replaced in minutes. When the unit is out of warranty, the control can be fixed by most local computer stores.

Hardware upgrading:
Computers are always being improved. The OmniTurn can take advantage of this, as well. We offer inexpensive hardware upgrades when they become available.

Software updates are Free:
The system software is stored on a floppy disk. When new versions are available, all you have to do is change the disk.

Connectivity:
There is nothing better to connect to a PC than another PC! RS-232: It's free and can be used to upload and download programs. Network cards: Ethernet cards can be installed for connections to Novell, Lantastic, or NT. The OmniTurn software can be configured to work with networks.

Free programming software
The software can be copied to other computers and be used offline. You can write programs in the office while the OmniTurn is running, then copy the program on a floppy disk and take it out to the machine.

  • Verification software is supplied free and can be copied to your PC. Before you get up from your desk you can:
    • Check the syntax of your program
    • Look for possible programming errors
    • Estimate cycle time
    • List the tools and their offsets
    • Plot tool path graphics
