Tap Holders for OmniTurn
|
|||||||||||
OmniTurns have the ability to tap. All GT-75s and GT-Jrs have the spindle drive capability to tap. If you are purchasing an attachment, you will need a spindle drive control option. Any of the spindle drive options can tap. We offer 3 types of tap holders. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. If you have any questions on which one would do you best, please give us a call.

The OmniTurn OTC-16 tap holder has many advantages. The tap holder will fit in all of the tooling bars with a 5/8" bore. The holder is kept from rotating by a pin from the top. It can float back and forth smoothly. A spring keeps the holder back against the tooling bar. If you program the feed of the tap a little lower than the lead, the assembly will pull out a little from the bar. Then, when the spindle reverses, the tap just "floats." For small, sensitive taps, this is better than a holder with a clutch that can snap the tap on the reversal. The holder is case hardened. It will last a long time.
NOTE: If you are tapping to the bottom of a blind hole, or have to tap to a specific depth, then we recommend a self releasing tap holder. It is much easier to hold a depth with the release of a the clutch. |

Heavy Duty Tapping Spindle and Holder
The heavy duty tapping unit is similar to the OmniTurn OTC-16 Floating Tap Holder. It will take the abuse of larger taps. The tapping spindle uses standard OTC-16 collets. It will also work with OTC-16T collets. These tapping collets have a square broached into the back of the collet to positivly drive the tap. |
